Please add your proposals and I will edit/add this post with them!!!

What was the initial story for UNMG?

It's something that I wanted to do long time ago....
I was thinking about a new user, without (ex)xoops-knowledge.
Probably he don't know what modules are suitable for specific job (we
assume that he knows that he must add modules in order to have
specific functions and behaviors)

Probably the modules compatibility is a bit advanced for a newbie.
He wants something simple.

We are talking about modules that are working on our sites, guaranteed.

I've started with something simple...and I want your help by replying with
the modules and the categories that I miss.

So, the following modules are the ones that I'm using without any problem
in my xoops cube sites. It's not a complete list, it's not a compatibility
list, it's not an official recommended list.

When the UNMG will be complete I will transfer it in wiki!

Re: Ultimate Newbies Modules Guide (UNMG)
This is definitely a great initiative

Content

Pico can manage forms, multimedia and wrap content
java, flash games, video, etc. It's a module All-In-One ^^

Image Management

There's a module My Album integrating google maps,
which can be useful to build a touristic guide and
globaltrotters blogs

News, Newsletter, Personal Blogs + Feed RSS

If I well remember, the module News integrates a newsletter
but don't use the secure path to common/fckeditor

Well, I'm quite sure that most sites will use XIGG !
for news, blogs, share links and why not as forum too
It's a powerful module for most web sites requiring social interaction
options : html filter, screenshots on the fly and feeds everywhere

To build multi blog sites, there's Wordpress fixed by Mikhail,
and D3 clonable modules, bulletin and D3blog (under translation).

Finally to build a Social Networking System, the modules
My Friends, SNS (not translated yet) and popular Tell-a-Friend
used by most D3 modules.

Addons - Tools

Examples how to extend with Preloads and Postloads
User and themes management,Social Bookmark links, etc
Ajax File Manager as extension of FCKEditor that can
also be used with blocks.

To do (wiki landing page):
Cubson by Minahito
Xoopserver Tools (portable server, cvs, etc) by Mikhail

++

We can define which modules for each task
and finally define packages for specific
sites: personal blog, community, corp,etc
I'll be glad to help on this stuff.

Re: Ultimate Newbies Modules Guide (UNMG)
Thanks Nuno for your work.
I've updated the guide to v0.2

At the end it will be fine to define packets.
But it's not good to have it as packages for download since the modules have frequent updates and it's a pain to have the packets always up-to-date.

Re: Ultimate Newbies Modules Guide (UNMG)
Right! Instead release extra packages, maybe setup wiki pages
with recommended configurations and links to developers web sites.
A lot easier to maintain up to date ^^

Cheers

Re: Ultimate Newbies Modules Guide (UNMG)
What is going on here is EXCELLENT, it makes me envious.
Damaster , I appreciate your efforts in the past trying to help me and I would like to impose on you now to help me bring this information to XOOPS.org. We need this type of organization and support, it is truly lacking now that the main volunteer players have broke off to build their own CMS.

May I have your permission to use the information provided here that is so similar to the XOOPS.org needs.

Dear Darcy...

You are working too hard for xoops' org wiki (sometimes I thought you are a machine on a lonely road, like many others here).

The guide is unfinished. I was off for week because I was ill. I'm feeling better now.

You can wait to see the giude in a more complete state and share it.

Everything is open to all friends :)

Xigg is also cloneable, though I don't use the term D3. Since Xigg's core library is a pear package and can be shared server-wide and not only XOOPS wide, does that make it D4?

I would like to make Angelos words mine ^^

Some give, some share, and some take.

Many ways to spend our life-time.
But we still leaving in the same earth.
The same sun rises and sets on all of us.
Perhaps what all the people celebrate is
this continuity of life and all we need is
freedom to have fun!

No. And it wouldn't be funny at all. D3 meaning Directory free!
I'm kidding and teasing you

"Well, I'm quite sure that most sites will use XIGG !

Most people will enjoy simplicity of user interface built
with end-user experience in mind, ie plugins.

But... it's also about set everyone free to smoothly move
habits and data from other apps (ex.wordpress) to experiment
XC freedom.

This is really cool, because left or right brain people are
free to choose the tools with which they feel comfortable.
